First Contact Physiotherapists

Our team of MSK specialist FCP’s are fully qualified Physiotherapists that have specialised in musculoskeletal care and are highly experience in this field. FCP’s can help by giving expert assessment and management advice for your joint, bone, muscle, and nerve type issues. They are also able to refer for blood tests and imaging, issue fit notes, and refer onto specialist services if necessary.

Patients are able to self-refer to see a First Contact Practitioner, you may be advised from the reception staff to book in with the FCP, and GPs may also refer patients to the service. The benefits for patients are:

  • Quicker access to assessment and management advice – you can book direct in with the FCP, so you don’t need to spend long periods of time on a waiting list to see a hospital physiotherapist. You’ll likely get all the relevant support and information you need from seeing the FCP just once
  • With quick access, patients will have quicker access to diagnosis and treatment, helping them to manage their conditions more effectively and recover faster, so they can get back to normal life quickly.

And having FCPs in GP practices also assists the GP workload and reduces the need for onward referrals.

Our First Contact Physio team is able to see adult patients with:

  • Soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains or sports injuries
  • Arthritis – any joint
  • Possible problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons or bone, e.g. tennis elbow, carpal tunnel   syndrome, ankle sprains
  • Spinal pain including lower back   pain, mid-back pain and neck pain
  • Spinal-related pain in arms or legs, including nerve symptoms, e.g. pins  and needles or numbness
  • Post-orthopaedic surgery
  • Women’s health, antenatal and postnatal problems
