Altrincham Healthcare Alliance PCN has been working with Age UK Trafford, the Stroke Association, Thrive Trafford and InStep Footcare in Altrincham to drive a ‘detect and protect’ programme to save hundreds of Trafford patients who are currently unaware they are living with a potentially dangerous heart condition which could lead to a stroke.
Figures show that 1 in every 45 people in Trafford is living with Atrial Fibrillation (AF) which causes an irregular or abnormally fast heart rate and is one of the major causes of a stroke. By simply checking pulses using a hand-held ECG device, AF can be detected.
The campaign pilot was postponed due to COVID-19.
